    Why exams ask for it

    The strip ties the photo to you and shows it's recent. It stops old photos being reused and makes verification at the exam centre quicker, because the invigilator can compare the name and date at a glance.

    Which exams ask for it

    In our list, TNPSC (all groups), Kerala PSC through the Thulasi profile, and UPSC from CSE 2026 require the name and date on the photo (rules checked September 2026). Studios in Tamil Nadu and Kerala add it routinely. Other exams don't need it; adding it where it isn't asked for is usually harmless but unnecessary.

    What it should look like

    A white band across the bottom of the photo, about a fifth of its height, with your name on one line and the date the photo was taken below it, in black capital or clear letters. Use the date the photo was actually taken, not today's date if the photo is older. The whole thing, band included, must still fit the photo's exact pixel size and KB range.

    How to add it here

    Choose your exam and Photo: for exams that need the strip, the name field appears and the date is filled in with today's date. Type your name as it appears in your application, correct the date if needed, and press Prepare. The tool leaves room for the band inside the final size, so your face isn't squashed.

    Kerala PSC's rules

    Kerala PSC asks for the photo date and name in a white band at the bottom, and it doesn't accept photos older than ten years. Update the Thulasi profile photo rather than uploading a different photo per application.

    How it works

    3. Press Prepare: the strip is printed at the bottom, inside the exact size.

    Questions

    Should the date be today's date?

    It should be the date the photo was taken. If you take the photo today, today's date is right.

    Can I write the name in Tamil or Malayalam?

    Use English capital letters unless your notice says otherwise; that's what verifiers expect.
