Common UPSC upload errors, and the fix
Photo over 300 KB
UPSC refuses a photo above 300 KB (the allowed range is 20–300 KB). Phone photos are usually 2–5 MB, so compress it to around 160 KB rather than right at the limit.
Signature over 100 KB
UPSC refuses a signature above 100 KB (the allowed range is 20–100 KB). Phone photos are usually 2–5 MB, so compress it to around 60 KB rather than right at the limit.
Signature under 20 KB
A clean signature on white paper is often only a few KB, below the 20 KB minimum for UPSC. FitMyKB raises the quality first and then adds invisible padding, so the file reaches 20 KB without changing how it looks.
Background isn't plain white
UPSC wants a plain white or light background. A coloured wall, curtain or room behind you can get the photo rejected at verification, weeks later. Turn on White background and it's replaced for you.
Name and date missing on the photo
UPSC expects your name and the date the photo was taken printed at the bottom of the photo. Type them in the tool and they're added inside the exact size, so the face isn't squashed.
Not a real JPG
The UPSC portal takes JPG files. iPhone photos are HEIC and screenshots are PNG, and renaming a file to .jpg doesn't convert it. Drop the original into the tool: it always saves a genuine JPG.
UPSC photo size
UPSC asks for the photo as a JPG: 20–300 KB · white background · name & date on photo. From CSE 2026 the name and photo date are expected at the bottom of the photo; check your form.
UPSC signature size
UPSC asks for the signature as a JPG: 20–100 KB. Sign three times, one below the other, on white paper in black ink, and upload the three as one image.
